eInvoice is coming to Serbia!

Serbia has been addressing the issue of mandatory electronic invoicing for several years now. On April 29, 2021, Law No. 44/2021 was enacted, which, in addition to establishing the framework for an invoicing system, regulates the issuance, transmission, receipt, processing, storage, and content of electronic invoices.
The Invoicing System
The Serbian Ministry of Finance has now developed the “Sistema E-Faktura” platform, or SEF for short, which is used for receiving, sending, and archiving invoices. With this new platform, Serbia now has Continuous Transaction Control (CTC), which is intended to curb tax fraud and close loopholes in tax collection.
Serbia has implemented electronic invoicing in three phases over the past few months:
May 2022
Since May 1, 2022, suppliers to the public sector have been required to submit invoices electronically. The Serbian government has been able to receive and store these invoices since then.
July 2022
Since July 1, 2022, public institutions have been required to send invoices electronically to businesses. These businesses must be able to receive and process the invoices.
January 2023
Since January 1, 2023, electronic invoicing has been made mandatory across the entire business-to-business (B2B) sector.
